Do NOT sell provincial asphalt plant and disband paving crew
Do NOT sell provincial asphalt plant and disband paving crew
The Issue
keeps compitetion for large contractors, reduces the cost of asphalt (by 20%), provides income for small gravel pit owners, provides income for small local truckers, keeps seasonal highway workers working longer (thus reduceing unemployment), makes roads in remote rural Nova Scotia fit to drive on, improves tourism and reducing the amount of salt needed to clear roads in winter.
After working with this crew for the past 2 months and seeing how profesional and dedicated they are to their job, and talking to residents in the areas that were repaved this summer (in some places the first repaving in 20 years) and having drivers wave and smile as they pass through the work zones I think it would be a disservice to remote rural Nova Scotians to sell the asphalt plant.
