Marshdale and Saltsprings Methane Gas Plants Update

Thankyou for signing the petition. Ceremonies were recently led by Tonya Marie, Water Protector, of Pictou Landing First Nation, from Saltsprings and Marshdale. People standing together in solidarity against 2, 300 mega watt methane gas generating plants proposed for these rural communities, wetlands and rivers.
What next?
Now is the most critical time to reach out to federal ministers as the decision making moment comes closer. Please consider taking action by copying and pasting the letter below and emailing it to: the Federal Minister of the Department of Fisheries and Oceans and the Federal Minister of Environment and Climate Change. This is a simple, quick and effective way to be heard and protect the landscapes, people and waterways of these two rural locations.

Dear Minister,
I am writing regarding the proposed 300mw methane gas generating plants for Marshdale and Saltsprings, Pictou County, Nova Scotia. These gas plants will severely change the way of life for rural people in these areas for a generation or more. I do not want to see rural people, our streams, rivers and wetlands destroyed.
Both proposed sites are confirmed and important spawning grounds for Atlantic Salmon, a species protected under the Species at Risk Act. Plamu (Atlantic Salmon) is considered a sacred species for the Mi'kmaw First Nation.
Minister, considering the adverse federal effects on Atlantic Salmon from these two proposed industrial plants, the Federal Government should not defer the protection of Atlantic Salmon or their habitats to a provincial environmental assessment that lacks clear and concise data, baseline studies or modelling on fish, watercourses and wetlands in or downstream from the proposed plants.
I further oppose deferring inherent, federally protected, indigenous rights to fish for and the ceremonial use of Atlantic Salmon to the province who have not consulted indigenous groups in an open, co-operative, respectful way, acknowledging Indigenous title and self-determination.
What assurances have been given by the Province of Nova Scotia to mitigate both of these federal effects noted above? Minister, I respectfully ask that you consider the above seriously and with a deep understanding of what is at risk if these gas plants are built, thankyou.
Yours Sincerely
