Kingsbridge way provides vital respite for at least 67 vulnerable adults with learning difficulties. Providing a safe environment where they feel safe and secure, and their careers feel they are being well looked after. Nottinghamshire County Council in their wisdom, want to make budget cuts and by attacking the vulnerable, who are unable to speak for themselves, by making many detrimental cuts. They want to make our lives difficult by suggesting that maybe 'Shared Lives' http://www.nottinghamshire.gov.uk/caring/adultsocialcare/somewheretolive/sharedlives/

could be an option! As careers we need support 'out of our homes' and not in other peoples own homes, we feel they are to vulnerable there!  The councils other idea is they ship these adults to other respite care units. This is a huge shame! Kingsbridge Way is within walking distance to Broxtowe Day Service ( Barncroft) where many of these adults attend during the day. A taxi from Broxtowe day services will cost the council either a) to Rainworth...( trip there and back ) £60 or Bingham £52 ( trip there and back). A client contribution would be asked for of £7 ( an increase from £5 made at the moment.)

Our children ( adults who have left school) who are unable to live independently are humans and not animals to be shifted around! They cannot cope with transition or change, and they do not need to!!

They are settled where they are and as you can see by the recent ' Care Quality Commission' inspection report http://www.cqc.org.uk/directory/1-160561299 a place that is working well , where the clients are very well looked after.

We as parents/ careers provide Nottingham County Council with free respite care , for adults that could quite easily be placed with them, as we become increasingly unable to cope with the very difficult task.

We can do without a theatre trip, we can do without a library book...BUT we cannot do without respite care in a place we have (like our children) grown to trust.
