Rethink their drastic cuts to the voluntary sector in Nottingham

The Issue

Nottingham City Council made £20 million worth of cuts in 2011, many hitting the voluntary sector. This is in line with the National Government's "Big Society" scheme. This essentially involves less money being spent in the voluntary sector helping the most vulnerable in society and more people supposedly getting involved in their local community

The Government and Nottingham City Council want a big society - well, let's give it to them. If they want to see community spirit - then let's show them that it's alive and well. If they want more volunteers, volunteer your time and energy by signing this petition.

In Nottingham, there are many dedicated and active volunteers but many voluntary services cannot survive without funding. Also, while volunteer projects help the commuity so much what many don't realise is that supporting, recruiting and managing volunteer action takes time and money.

In Nottingham, the voluntary sector provides many vital services that in the past were supplied by the City Coucil. And now, the ?Council expect the voluntary sector to continue supplying vital servces without Council support. We understand cuts but cutting funding back to nothing in some cases is illogical and counter-productive.

So help to show that in Nottingham we have a Big Society and the Big Society needs help to continue to be strong and vibrant. Sign this petition and show your concern for Nottingham's future.
