COK’s heartbreaking 2015 investigation of a model plant for this program’s expansion exposed its horrors: pigs being shocked, beaten, and dragged as workers struggled to keep up with recklessly fast line speeds, and even pigs covered in feces-filled abscesses being processed for human consumption--with a USDA inspection seal of approval. 

Then we released a shocking investigation in 2018 shining a bright light on cruel high-speed chicken slaughter at Amick Farms, revealing birds being punched, shoved, and thrown down the recklessly fast-paced kill line. Other birds slowly drowned in electrified stunning baths during equipment breakdown. Our investigator also documented “red birds” with blood seen under their skin—evidence that they were scalded alive.

Now the USDA isn’t only moving forward with plans to expand cruel high-speed pig slaughter nationwide—it’s also granting waivers allowing even more poultry slaughterhouses to increase their line speeds, endangering millions of animals, workers, and consumers.
