FM radio has been the standard in broadcasting since the 1970's. The form of broadcasting has kept people informed and educated on current, important issues and about potential dangers they may experience (i.e dangerous storms, violence etc...). Norway plans to end FM radio broadcasting on January 11th, 2017 and switch to DAB and DAB+ only. This is a huge mistake. The audio can be shoddy and plus, people will be forced to by new radios that have DAB+ capabilities. Traditional FM radio is simpler, more affordable and offers a better coverage and wider audio. DAB+ crams audio into a very narrow area, hence compressing audio giving a worse listening experience, not to mention worse coverage area. Norway, please do not end all FM broadcasting. Keep FM alive, along with DAB+ so people have a choice between the two.

Why am I writing this petition?

I am lover of all forms of radio, from Longwave, Mediumwave, Shortwave to Microwave. Traditional radio, meaning analogue FM and AM radio are tried and true forms of broadcasting. They cover areas with a much more stable and stronger signal than digital radio due to a wider bandwidth. Wider bandwidth also means a better, less compressed audio giving you a better sounding station. I am shocked Norway would end such a predominant form of media, and hope we can stop them from doing such a thing.
