Norway's 2026 whaling season is over.
But that number doesn't include the unborn calves who died with their mothers. Around 40% of whales killed in Norway are pregnant. Analysis of Norwegian whaling records from 2021 to 2025 found that among the females killed, more than half were pregnant. And they are being killed for an industry with astonishingly little domestic demand. Recent polling found that only around 1% of Norwegians regularly eat whale flesh. The Norwegian Government authorised whalers to kill as many as 1,641 whales this year. They killed 418. Hundreds of individuals. Pregnant mothers. Unborn calves.
