NISD Teachers/Monthly Paid Employees Should Be Paid TWICE Per Month
The Issue
Teachers and Instructional Assistants have a tough and trying job already. To make things even more difficult, sometimes those employees have to go without pay for 5 or almost 6 weeks sometimes. This puts a strain at home, when there is already strains in the work place.
Instructional Assistants make less than half of what starting teachers make, and they're expected to make their pay (usually less than $1000 per month after benefits and taxes) stretch for 4-6 weeks.
The Superintendent stated that there are "technical difficulties" that make being paid twice a month not an option, however they haven't told us what those "technical difficulties" are.
This begs the question: if there are said "technical difficulties", then how is it that bus drivers, custodial staff, and food service workers in our district are able to be paid twice per month?
So if there aren't technical difficulties, they said it would cost more...well, how much more? Or is that "cost" the amount of money not being made by the district by accruing interest while the pay just sits in an account (which DOES happen). How is it that other large businesses and corporations (USAA, AT&T, HEB, etc) are able to pay their employees twice a month, but the largest school district in San Antonio (the 8th largest city in the country) is unable to do so?
So instead of truly helping the teachers and IA's of the district that have an already taxing job, it seems like we're getting a lot of excuses with NO TRUE EXPLANATION as to why we can't get paid twice a month/why we MUST get paid 4-6 weeks after our last pay date.
Please sign this petition and forward it to NISD employees to let their voices be heard. If there is a resounding majority of employees that want this, and there is data to prove it, maybe our Superintendent and school board will actually listen and do what's best for their teachers and IA's.
