One of our supporters has kindly created an email template to send to administrators, school board members, and other leaders in charge of making the name and mascot change. Hello [NSBORO ADMIN],

My name is [YOUR NAME], I am an Algonquin Regional High School [ASSOCIATION TO ARHS (i.e. current student, alumni (graduation year), parent (graduating year of your child), taxpayer, etc.)]. I am contacting you today to voice my support of the movement organized by Students for Justice to change the Algonquin Regional High School mascot.

The Tomahawk mascot perpetuates racist stereotypes classifying Natives as violent and barbaric. Since Algonquin Regional High School’s inception in 1959, racist attire, chants and behavior have been commonplace – disguised as school pride and excused as an attempt to honor Native people. This racism is unacceptable and must change immediately. 

As [ASSOCIATION TO ARHS], I am in support of this change because [GIVE YOUR REASON WHY YOU WANT CHANGE! (this can be personal and lengthy, or something more simple like "I am in support of this change because the current Tomahawk mascot is racist")]

A school that continues to employ Native symbols creates an environment where students think appropriation is acceptable and encouraged, perpetuating systemic racism both within the school and beyond. Thus, as [ASSOCIATION TO ARHS] of ARHS, I urge you to change the school's racist Tomahawk mascot. Will you commit to making it clear that cultural appropriation is a form of racism? Change the ARHS mascot now.
