Stop Keeping Peacocks in Abington Park

The Issue

Birdcage walk and particularly the peacocks kept in tiny cages are an embarrassment to our town. We should not be keeping these birds in such small cages. It is clear that their health is suffering as their tails are not growing properly and they are not able to exhibit proper species specific behaviour.

It is distressing to watch these wonderful creatures wasting away: watching them suffer does not teach children anything but a lack of respect for animals. There are so many beautiful free birds in the nearby lake that we do not need birds in cages to teach children to love birds.

It’s time for the Council to rehome the remaining peacocks to places of freedom and enrichment and not replace them. Let's show that we are a kind, progressive and aware community, not one that promotes cruelty.
