North Sydney Council - Have Your Say (Part 1)

Good Evening, Some of you may have received an email from North Sydney Council today (if you have already sent feedback to them previously regarding the proposed Watt Park stairs upgrade). We are just ironing out a few final kinks (i.e. colour coding on the online plans may not display on some devices); hence I ask that you hold off from providing your feedback until Wednesday, 14th February at this stage. I will send an update through at this time (11:15pm) tomorrow night when everything has been clarified, with a link to the Council website. I also need to clarify the handrail and lighting specs with Council; I believe that (despite the community asking for a handrail more in keeping with the environment), the only option Council has provided us with at this stage is the dreaded steel with lighting (similar to the handrails on the stairs at King George Street). Additionally, although those running the project have refused to put a conservation and sympathetic restoration option forward (simply repair the existing staircase and add an additional section at the bottom with matching sandstone stairs, to even out the steep gradient there and increase safety), they have advised that there is an opportunity for the community to provide feedback to the effect of "None of the above". More on this in tomorrow's update! We currently have some breathing space, as the deadline has been extended and community submissions will now close at midnight on Sunday, 11th March. Thank you for your support of the Watt Park stairs!
