Object to the proposed major Churchill development

0 have signed. Let’s get to 5,000!

2,800 new houses, bringing an additional population of almost 7000, have been planned to be built in a new development right on our doorsteps, changing Churchill from a rural village into a town.

Along with the new houses, there are plans for two major new roads in the area... one dual carriageway, and another link road that will cut across football and cricket pitches inbetween Langford and Wrington.

Most people accept that small amounts of house building within and around our villages is needed. However, it is the immense scale of the proposed plans that will destroy our village life. We have all chosen to live in the countryside but the huge number of new houses planned for development in Churchill on agricultural land beside the Mendip Hills will change our rural village into a town the size of Wells, considerably larger than Yatton and around half the size of Clevedon.

We only have until 10th January 2018 to object to the planned development proposal.

In signing the petition you are stating your agreement with the following:

We call on North Somerset Council to abolish the proposal to build 2,800 houses in Churchill/Congresbury effectively turning Churchill into a dormitory town of over 3,800 dwellings.

We call on North Somerset Council to abolish the proposal to build a dual carriageway and a major spur road coming out at Churchill traffic lights. These will destroy our villages.

We call on North Somerset Council to build houses close to Bristol or Weston-S-Mare where the infrastructure – jobs, transport and services exist to ensure the creation of a sustainable community.   Churchill to Weston - 9 miles; Churchill to Bristol - 15 miles.

We stand with concerned citizens in opposition to the proposals contained in the West of England Joint Spatial Strategy regarding Churchill and Langford villages.  We believe that the proposals contravene all four subsections of clause 182 of the National Planning Policy Framework.
