Nailsea Housing Development - Engine Lane

The Issue

Land on Engine Lane known as Gaulacre and owned by Nailsea Town Council (NTC) should not be sold and used for housing development as voted on by NTC. The road infrastructure to the south and west of the the proposed development is narrow country lanes which can not cope with the added volume of traffic that would be generated by such a large development.

This petition calls on the county council of North Somerset and NTC to investigate alternatives including working with a housing developer to build a new primary school on the Gaulacre site in exchange for the developer being given the current land occupied by Grove & Hannah Moore schools for housing development. This would be in-fill as the schools are already surrounded on three sides by housing whereas the proposed development is quite the opposite and opens up possible future housing development of the rugby fields. The road infrastructure in this area is already established and as the development would be closer to both the town centre and Nailsea & Backwell rail station it would hopefully mean less traffic as it would be within walking distance of both and is also on an existing bus route.

Constructing a new school next to the land owned by N&B Rugby Club would hopefully allow the school to let their playing fields for Junior Rugby. It would be a win/win for the community as there is a new primary school to replace two old ones and we get housing development, all at no cost to the residents of Nailsea.
