STOP DOG BEACH BAN, INSTOW, NORTH DEVON

Instow Beach is an Estuarine Beach with warning signs explaining dangers from water pollution, quicksand, dangerous fast tidal currents, outfall pipes, sewage and farm run-off - i.e., it is not suitable for bathing.
It's the visitors with dogs who come here - simply because the beach is dog friendly all year round. The beach is just not suitable for the usual holiday beach activities. Local business owners know this and so all pubs, restaurants, holiday cottages, b&bs are dog friendly.
Yet two councillors on Instow Parish Council are attempting to propose a PSPO (Public Spaces Protection Order) to restrict dogs on the beach. They have ignored the three strongly worded letters from Christie Estates (the beach owners) who stated in 2013 'There will be no dog restrictions on our beach' - and have carried on regardless with private meetings with North Devon Council, and have just carried out a 'survey'. Instow Parish Council will be making a decision this month whether to pursue this PSPO.
North Devon Council has refused to speak to me or have a meeting. We have organised public demonstrations, and have won the support of that famous dog lover Chris Packham.
We are no longer prepared to be dismissed, ignored and treated with contempt by officers at North Devon Council. If they implement a PSPO we have every intention of challenging this legally in court. And, even if we fail - we shall simply not bow down to this nonsense. We love our dogs and will not tolerate our freedoms being restricted. This is undemocratic and makes no sense at all. Please stand up for your dog's rights and public freedoms - and sign the petition!
