COREY'S LAW: Make it illegal for someone to leave a person in a life threatening situation

The Issue

We created this petition to help prevent what happend to my family from happening to another.

In December 2017 my older brother Corey Clark overdosed and died. The girl he was with left him on the side Kelly Drive in Sanford, North Carolina. The witness who found him said it to be a "lonely place" with no houses or lights around. That night was so cold there was no way to tell if he died there or somewhere else. She was charged with felony concealment of a death and 16 months later, in May 16th, her charges were dismissed and she was set free. She spent less then 30 days in jail, shortly after the incident took place.

Her charges were dismissed as there was no way to prove he was deceased when she left him. Currently, in North Carolina it is not illegal to leave someone dying on the side of the road.

We want to pass a law that will make it illegal to leave someone in any kind of life threatening situation on the side of the road or anywhere for that matter. All you have to do is call 911 and the good samaritan law will protect you in most situations from charges because you did the right thing.

We believe that even though justice can not be served in our case this will help anyone who may end up in a similar situation. Please help us by signing this petition so we can bring it to our law makers attentions so another family will not have to go through what we went through.

Thank you for your support!
