Time is running out to sign and support NC shrimping!! The Marine Fisheries Commission will accept public comment, beginning at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, February 15 during their business meeting at the Hilton Wilmington Riverside, 301 N. Water St. in Wilmington. Following the public comment, the board will begin deliberations on the NC Wildlife Federation's petition for rules at 8:30 a.m. on Thursday morning. Then, they will vote on the petition. As citizens and lovers of fresh seafood, we cannot let the NCWF petition pass. It will implement rules, including a 3-day work week, limited tow times, limited equipment and, even worse, a designation of "primary nursery area" to all NC waters, including 3 miles into the ocean. The designation could pave the way for even more closures to our state's commercial fisheries, including gill nets, pound nets, oyster harvest and crabbing. Please, sign and share this counter petition. Our fishermen, coastal livelyhood and dinner plates depend on it.
