Terminate plans to widen NC 42 and Broadway Road in Lee County. Countless business and historic homes are being threatened by the expansion of the highway. In addition 200 graves sites at Shallow Well Church Cemetery will have to be removed and relocated in what can only be described as grave desecration. The State of North Carolina has approved this project based on a projected future traffic increase not on current needs. The public does not support this project, and the local government has voted to ask the DOT to transfer funds to a different project. We the citizens of Lee County and tax payers to the State of North Carolina call on the Department of Transportation, and the Triangle Area Rural Planning Organisation to either terminate all plans or develop new plans to reduce local impact.
