Keep Dr. Reece
Keep Dr. Reece
The Issue
Without student knowledge, the board of trustees made a decision to place our president on immediate administrative leave. Recently Dr. Reece, in tandem with Sabrina Cervantes, was working to apply for a 24 million dollar grant to secure housing at norco for veterans. Homelessness is a rampant problem amongst community college students and veterans across the board and the goal of this grant was to help provide support for students facing this issue. The chancellor denied this request, stating that it was not equitable for just Norco to get this resource. Never mind the fact that city campus already has an abundance of resources which are unavailable to the other campuses.
There is a meeting tonight, 6/11/2019 at 6pm where public comments are welcome and the chancellor cannot respond. This issue is being voted on tonight, during a period in which students are out of session. The Board meeting is held in the Board Room at the District Office, 3801 Market St., Riverside, CA 92501. This is our opportunity to have our voices heard and matter. If you cannot attend the meeting, please sign this petition as a representation of your support for Dr. Reece.
"We all may have different opinions regarding Dr Reece's leadership style and whether we liked or not how he handled certain issues, but I think we can all agree about his unwavering commitment to transforming our students, college, and community for the better. I can only hope that our students, college, and community now find the strength and courage to stand behind Dr Reece who needs our support to demonstrate that we are genuinely committed to this transformative plan." - Peggy Campo
