Gain approval to use neighbouring parkland to enable wedding events to occur.

The Council’s draft foreshore plan indicates that permits will no longer be issued for minor commercial events, such as drinks and snacks after wedding ceremonies, on a small and isolated section of Chaplin Park adjoining the restaurant.

The owners of the restaurant look after this grassed area and have been paying the Council for permits to use it for wedding and other activities for a total of three to eight hours a week.

The restaurant is requesting approval to use this small portion of parkland for the purpose described and seeks a long-term solution to support its own sustainability and provide an input to economic growth, especially within the wedding sector, in the Noosa region.

The multi-award winning Noosa Waterfront Restaurant has a reputation for culinary excellence and service. At occasional functions, canapés and drinks are served on a small 16 x 6 meter apron of land immediately in front of and abutting the restaurant.

This service can be integral to the aura and ambiance sought by the restaurant’s wedding clients and, although occupying just a short period of time prior to a formal reception inside the restaurant, this activity is now under threat.

We respectfully request that Noosa Council review its proposed restrictions on the use of this land so as to enable its occasional use as described above.

We further request that the Council negotiate with State agencies to reach a resolution enabling the use of the area as requested.
