Let Us Keep Our Chappy!

Let Us Keep Our Chappy!

The issue

School Chaplains have been providing social, emotional and spiritual support in school for over 25 years. Throughout 2014 information was collected on their activities and impact, this is what was found.
42.4% of school chaplains are male.
Only 2.9% of school chaplains have a master’s degree.
39.7% of school chaplains are generation X.

All these things personify Noosa District State High Schools, school chaplain. Our school chaplain is more than somebody that just prays, he's a confidant and mentor and is always ready and willing to lend an ear for whatever reason to over 1000 students across our two campuses. His advice and wisdom goes above and beyond when it concerns the children in our school. He lends a helping hand wherever is possible; including Our "Chappy's breakfast" every Wednesday morning for students who don’t have time to eat or don't have breakfast, but believe us when we say he's so much more than that. Unfortunately, due to the current financial status, our school and community can no longer afford to have our Chaplain on full time, forcing his days to be cut from 5, to 2. Although this may seem like a tiny problem in a world where things can be worse; this has hit many students and staff hard. These two days a week are government funded for many chaplains across Australia and for us will be spread across our two school campuses: Pomona and Cooroy. That's 1 day a week at each campus and with Chappy talking and consoling many students everyday as well as many other duties, it will be beyond difficult for him to get to everybody. Please help us to keep our Chaplain for 5 days a week. By signing this petition you are helping our cause for the government to fund an extra two days for our Pomona Campus school and awareness to local and for others to help, not only our chaplain, but many others across our country as well.
We can’t do this without your help.
Thankyou in advance,
Noosa District State High School, Student Council.
