You guys!!  We made some great changes happen!

Because of all of you, we are getting a pesticide maintenance overhaul for our Apple Valley kids!

The people in charge of pesticide management at our schools have done some digging into the issues we have brought up and as a result, starting next week:

-The notification system will be ready to go, might take some tweaking but we should be in the loop now!

-Every single AVUSD family should get a letter(maybe in-app) listing proposed pesticides, and cleaning agents for the school sites throughout the year.  This should also include a step-by-step guide on how to sign up for 72-hour notification prior to any application or make sure you have already signed up!

-Parents who have, or will sign up to be notified will receive a detailed notification(from your school site) on the Parent square app 72 hours prior to the application of pesticides(even if they're used on school breaks).

-AVUSD has also updated its website for easy access to the Healthy Schools Act and how they are complying.

They have been in contact with different cities and school districts that have adopted non-toxic policies and WE ARE SWITCHING TO ORGANIC HERBICIDE for school site maintenance!!  No more glyphosate around our kids!

They will still have glyphosate listed on the proposed pesticides list, just in case there is a high need for it, BUT it will probably be used only at the district offices.  Per notification, you WILL know if it is used at your child's school!

GUYS, this is huge!  I am so grateful to each of you for speaking up, sharing your concerns with me, signing the petition, notifying your school site about your concerns and helping to make this happen!  Our voices have been heard, I think we can call this a huge victory for our kiddos!

Thank you again,

Rebecca
