Attention: Appraisal Institute Members
The Issue
December 21, 2016
To the Board of Directors of the Appraisal Institute:
We, as long-term members of AI are writing to express our lack of confidence in how the organization is being managed. Our request is that the proposed significant changes in financial management are halted immediately until as such time as a special meeting can be held to discuss the overall management and responsiveness to the membership.
A special meeting is requested in a neutral location that includes representatives of those of us who are concerned about the management environment and also representatives from the individual chapters. The lack of transparency in the organization’s operation decision-making process cannot continue without loss of credibility among us.
As you well realize, the organization is intended to serve the membership. The vast majority of the funds necessary for operations come from our pockets.
By acquiescing to the current proposal, the continued style of top-down management and lack of responsiveness to the chapters is intolerable.
We strongly support the organization and want to improve and strengthen it. Our hope is that we can have a productive meeting to discuss the specifics of our concern and how the corporate management environment may be made more responsive to the membership.
Your prompt response is appreciated.
