"I learned early on that in fighting against systematic oppression, dehumanization and colonization, who controls the narrative shapes the reality of how the world views society. It controls who’s loved, who’s hated, who’s degraded and who’s celebrated.”

And with his statement above, Colin Kaepernick has announced he's writing & releasing a new memoir through Audible which will be released sometime this year. His memoir will focus on the motivation that lead to his 2016 NFL protest, and the methods behind his activism.

Kaepernick also said he still trains 5 days each week, hoping for a chance in the NFL.

In a nutshell, Kaepernick wants to create opportunities for Black & Brown writers to control their narratives and retain ownership. (Side note: Back in 2017 we wrote an open letter to mainstream media senior editors calling out this very same issue). 

Kaepernick also said:

“It’s not just my control over stories. We wanted to be able to put the power back into the hands of the people that are telling the stories and the people that are writing the stories and creating them. We didn’t want to monopolize that and hold that to ourselves. It’s something that should be distributed to the people who are putting in the work to be able to tell their stories and tell them in a genuine and authentic way."
