As you know, Colin Kaepernick's organization is called Know Your Rights Camp, a youth-empowerment initiative started in 2016 to gain legal knowledge for encountering police officers and to win in the areas of health, education, tech, self-empowerment, and finance.
In homage to the Black Panther Party's 10-point platform and Program, Know Your Rights is pillared around 10 fundamental human rights:
- You have the right to be Free
- You have the right to be Healthy
- You have the right to be Brilliant
- You have the right to be Safe
- You have the right to be Loved
- You have the right to be Courageous
- You have the right to be Alive
- You have the right to be Trusted
- You have the right to be Educated
- You have the right to Know Your Rights
To further drive home the point, PAPER Magazine interviewed various figures (who are passionate in each right) to explain what each right means to them.
They include Taraji P. Henson, Ava Duvernay, Eric Reid, Dr. Angela Davis, Tarana Burke, Nessa, the Exonerated 5, Yara Shahidi, Indya Moore, Bryan Stevenson, and Kaepernick himself offered some words.
Check out their interviews here below (it's a great read)...
