What's going on everyone,
About 4 weeks ago we put out an update, asking you to sign a new petition demanding Maroon 5 not play during the Super Bowl halftime show in solidarity with Colin Kaepernick.
If you haven't heard already, both Rihanna and Jay-Z declined to perform during the halftime show because of how the NFL treated Kaepernick. Amy Schumer even went on Instagram and asked, "I wonder why more white players aren’t kneeling." She then told her agent to not book any appearances during the Super Bowl (potentially losing millions) and commented on the Rihanna news by asking if Maroon 5 would step down from performing as well.
The Maroon 5 petition was created after these reports.
The petition now has 65,000+ signatures and has been mentioned on nearly every major media platform (if you signed, thank you!). Although is was likely a sure bet they would perform, lead singer Adam Levine -- when recently asked by Variety if he's still performing in light of the potential backlash -- said, "I’m still formulating a lot of things."
It’s crunch time for Maroon 5 — they have to make a decision about the Super Bowl NOW. In previous years, both Justin Timberlake and Lady Gaga were confirmed for their Super Bowl performances long before Thanksgiving.
So to show the seriousness of this issue, the 65,000+ signatures will be delivered to William Morris offices, the band’s agent, this coming Monday, December 3 in LA. It will be delivered by Vic, who created both the Maroon 5 petition and this #NoKaepernickNoNFL petition.
If you live in the LA area, will you join us for the delivery? You can RSVP on Facebook here.
If you can’t be there in person, help me tell the band that we’re coming: click here to Tweet at the band now.
Thanks for your support on this.
And it's still #NoKaepernickNoNFL.
