The motion to remove the discriminatory tax on menstruation products passed 258 to 0! One by one, every parliamentarian stood up to agree there should be no tax on tampons. This motion is a huge step—we can move forward knowing that all major political parties believe that this tax should be removed. Motions are non-binding, so we will continue to pay taxes on menstruation products until the government amends the tax act. The NDP opposition is asking that the government amend the budget to include this important change. On Tuesday, during Question Period, Irene Mathyssen and Mylene Freeman stood up to ask when the Conservative Government would remove the tax. Keep a running tally of the GST you pay on menstruation products so that you can tell Conservative MPs just how much they are unfairly collecting from our periods.
