Hello- The "Safe" Outdoor Space application was denied back in February of 2023. The applicant, Bethlehem Baptist Church did not submit a security plan, as required by the city of Albuquerque. Although the claimed that all Safe Outdoor Spaces were required to have 24 hour security, when it came down to it, the church was only going to have one unarmed guard at night. Day security was going to be up to the day manager. The City of Albuquerque Family and Community Services department would not produce the written security plan they claimed to require. City Councilor, Louis Sanchez, wrote and passed an Operator Requirement, it included that the kitchen be commercial standard, and the security be 24 hours a day. The church does not have a congregation or board to support these expensive costs. It was denied!!!! This pastor tried 2 times to get an approved application (the map image is attached with the denials for 5915 Bluewater Road). Thanks to the residents who got out and handed out flyers, donated money for a mass mail campaign, made calls, showed up to the protests we had, and contacted media. Do not think our noise did not make a difference!!!!!!
