Les scientifiques ne cessent de le répéter : les émissions de gaz à effet de serre sont la cause d’un dérèglement climatique, et 86 % de ces émissions sont liées à la combustion d’énergies fossiles.
Le Concours Reine Elisabeth accepte pourtant le financement de TotalEnergies et BNP Paribas Fortis, deux entreprises responsables du financement et du développement de ces énergies climaticides.
En s'y associant, l'événement renforce leur image mais tourne surtout le dos aux attentes sociétales en matière d’éthique, d'environnement et de justice sociale.
TotalEnergies : un acteur majeur du chaos climatique
Alors qu’il est vital d’interrompre tout nouvel investissement dans les énergies fossiles afin d’espérer respecter l’objectif de l’Accord de Paris, TotalEnergies prévoit pourtant – malgré l'alerte des scientifiques – d’augmenter sa production Oil & Gas de 3 % par an jusqu’en 2030 et se détourne même de certains investissements dans le renouvelable au profit des énergies fossiles. De fait, 97 % de l’énergie totale produite par l’entreprise provient encore des énergies fossiles et au minimum 82 % de ses investissements continuent d’être dirigés vers ses activités liées au pétrole et au gaz. Sa stratégie fait donc obstacle à la transition énergétique, vitale pour freiner le dérèglement climatique dont les conséquences extrêmes, telles que les inondations, canicules, incendies ou ouragans, sont de plus en plus fréquentes et meurtrières.
Le Concours Reine Elisabeth participe au Greenwashing de l'entreprise en la présentant sur son site de la manière suivante : « TotalEnergies place le développement durable au cœur de sa stratégie... Une compagnie citoyenne, levier de transformation face aux enjeux sociétaux et environnementaux. » (sic)
Or "TotalEnergies ne peut tromper personne : l'entreprise n'est pas en transition et les acteurs financiers qui la soutiennent, dont les banques et investisseurs français, doivent réagir en mettant fin à ce soutien", a déclaré Antoine Bouhey, de Reclaim Finance. Cette recommandation devrait également concerner tout événement qui, comme le Concours Reine Elisabeth, doit impérativement cesser de lui offrir une tribune.
BNP Paribas Fortis : une politique climatique et éthique insuffisante
Le Scan des Banques, édité par Fairfin et Financité, confirme les scores insuffisants de BNP Paribas Fortis dans les domaines du changement climatique et des armes. En effet, la banque continue d'investir - bien que de façon indirecte - dans des entreprises qui extraient du pétrole et du gaz et n'exclut toujours pas totalement le charbon. Cette politique est non seulement irresponsable mais aussi criminelle puisque complice de calamités environnementales liées au dérèglement du climat.
Quant aux armes, "en plus d'investir dans des entreprises impliquées dans la production d’armes nucléaires, la banque n'a pas de politique concernant les armes incendiaires ou automatisées et n'impose pas de restriction sur la livraison d'armes aux pays fragiles ou militaristes."
Suivre l’exemple des 20 km de Bruxelles
Le Concours reste l'un des seuls événements belges qui affiche sa complicité avec TotalEnergies. Après deux années de mobilisation citoyenne, les 20 km de Bruxelles ont mis fin à leur partenariat avec cette entreprise criminelle. Nous demandons au Concours de suivre cet exemple.
La responsabilité sociétale du Concours est en jeu
Il est inacceptable que le Concours Reine Elisabeth soit financé par des entreprises dont les profits indécents reposent sur des pratiques destructrices et irresponsables.
Un événement aussi prestigieux doit assumer sa responsabilité sociétale en s’associant à des entreprises exemplaires sur les plans éthique et environnemental, et en intégrant des critères de durabilité clairs dans le choix de ses sponsors.
Nous lui demandons donc de mettre fin à sa collaboration avec TotalEnergies et BNP Paribas Fortis, dont les activités sont incompatibles avec les valeurs qu'il est censé défendre. Il en va de sa crédibilité et de son prestige.
Nous espérons que la prochaine édition du Concours Reine Elisabeth marquera un tournant, en s’appuyant sur des partenaires qui feront enfin rimer "Musique" avec "éthique".

Scientists keep repeating it: greenhouse gas emissions are driving climate chaos, and 86% of these emissions are linked to the burning of fossil fuels.
Yet the Queen Elisabeth Competition continues to accept funding from TotalEnergies and BNP Paribas Fortis, two companies involved in financing and developing these climate-damaging energy sources.
By getting involved, the event boosts their image but, above all, turns its back on society’s expectations regarding ethics, the environment and social justice.
TotalEnergies: a major contributor to climate chaos
Whilst it is vital to halt all new investment in fossil fuels if we are to have any hope of meeting the Paris Agreement’s target, TotalEnergies nevertheless plans – despite warnings from scientists – to increase its hydrocarbon production by 3% a year until 2030 and is even diverting some investment away from renewables in favour of fossil fuels. In fact, 97% of the total energy produced by the company still comes from fossil fuels, and at least 82% of its investments continue to be channelled into its oil and gas operations. Its strategy therefore stands in the way of the energy transition, which is vital to curbing climate change, the extreme consequences of which – such as floods, heatwaves, wildfires and hurricanes – are becoming increasingly frequent and deadly.
The Queen Elisabeth Competition is contributing to the company’s greenwashing by presenting it on its website as follows: “TotalEnergies places sustainable development at the heart of its strategy... A socially responsible company, driving change in the face of societal and environmental challenges.” (sic)
“TotalEnergies cannot fool anyone: the company is not in transition, and the financial players that support it – including French banks and investors – must respond by withdrawing their support,” said Antoine Bouhey of Reclaim Finance. This recommendation should also apply to any event – such as the Queen Elisabeth Competition – which must stop providing the company with a platform.
BNP Paribas Fortis: inadequate climate and ethical policies
The "Scan des Banques", published by Fairfin and Financité, confirms BNP Paribas Fortis’s poor scores in the areas of climate change and arms.
