No more silence; demand justice for sexual assault victims in The Gambia
No more silence; demand justice for sexual assault victims in The Gambia
The Issue
We are alerting the UK public and authorities to the presence of Abdoulie Bojang, who has recently returned to the United Kingdom following a criminal conviction in The Gambia.
Abdoulie Bojang was convicted of offenses involving the non-consensual distribution of intimate images and image-based sexual abuse. Crucially, evidence presented during his case included the discovery of approximately 100 intimate videos of various women on his devices, and his most recent victim is reported to be a minor. Despite the gravity of these predatory actions, he was able to secure his release in The Gambia by paying a financial fine (1 million Dalasis) and has since traveled back to the UK.
The Risk to the UK Public
The UK has strict laws regarding the protection of children and the prevention of sexual exploitation. A conviction for image-based abuse involving a minor is a serious red flag for future predatory behavior. We believe that:
The leniency of his sentencing in The Gambia does not reflect the ongoing risk he poses to the UK community.
The volume of evidence (100+ videos) suggests a high risk of re-offending.
The UK public, schools, and local communities have a right to know that a convicted exploiter of minors is residing in the country.
Our Demands to the UK Home Office and Police
We, the undersigned, call upon the Home Secretary and the National Crime Agency (NCA) to take the following urgent actions:
1: Ensure Paul Bojang is placed on the UK Sex Offenders Register under the provisions for those convicted of sexual offenses overseas
2:Immigration Review: Conduct an immediate review of his right to reside in the UK. Under UK law, individuals with serious criminal convictions can have their leave to remain revoked or face deportation on the grounds of "public good."
3:Digital Forensics: Coordinate with Gambian authorities to seize and review his electronic devices to ensure no further UK-based victims are involved or at risk.
4;Safeguarding Assessment: Ensure local law enforcement and social services are aware of his presence to prevent any access to vulnerable individuals or minors.
Justice should not be bypassed because crime was committed across borders. We demand that the UK government takes proactive steps to ensure that Paul Bojang is monitored, held accountable to UK safety standards, and that our communities—especially children—are protected from known predators.
Survivors deserve protection. Justice must not be overlooked.
