This week, I traveled to Sacramento to testify before a Joint Legislative Committee about why this cleanup is so urgent. I told them that DTSC’s biggest “achievement” last year was securing $2,000,000. The money isn’t going toward remediation, it’s being used to defend DTSC in court... against us. 

My community is suing because DTSC broke California environmental law by making a deal with Boeing, who owns most of the SSFL, to leave over 90% of the contamination in place — forever — and then turn the area into a public park.

We are suing because if DTSC won’t protect our families, we must fight for ourselves and our kids. I also pointed out that DTSC refuses to consider independent, peer-reviewed, and even federally funded research that shows just how dangerous the site is. They only accept data paid for by the polluters themselves.

Now we need our elected officials—and the public—to stand with us. This year, Boeing will push forward its fatally flawed cleanup plan. Without strong opposition, greed and power will once again outweigh the safety of our children and communities.
