According to today’s news, “The Boeing Company will pay $200 million to settle civil charges … after two fatal crashes killed 346 people … Boeing put profits over people…”

That isn’t news to those of us who live near the Santa Susana Field Lab, owned primarily by Boeing. They’ve been putting profit over people for ten years- even over the lives of our children. 

My friend’s daughter Hazel (shown in photo) died from cancer that may have been caused by Boeing’s contamination at the lab. We know of 80 children in our community who’ve had cancer, and countless more will be diagnosed for centuries unless the site is completely cleaned up.

The Santa Susana Field Lab is one of the most toxic sites in California. But instead of completely remediating the site, Boeing entered into an agreement earlier this year with California’s EPA to leave most of the toxic contamination behind. Boeing’s own study shows that some parts of the Santa Susana Field Lab are so contaminated that 9 out of 10 people would get cancer if they lived there, and still Boeing refuses to do the right thing.
