Reuter’s one-year special report shows how the Boeing Company will massively weaken the cleanup at the toxic Santa Susana Field Lab, claiming it will protect wildlife and the environment… even as it gives people nearby cancer.
The article shows 81 children nearby got cancer, 71 adults. The numbers are probably much, much higher. I know because I helped track the numbers. I eventually stopped tracking kids with cancer because it reminded me too much of my daughter’s own diagnosis, and the PTSD became overwhelming. The article includes the story of one of my friends whose husband recently died of brain cancer.
From the article:
Boeing’s strategy angers Jen Connell, who lost her husband, Mike, in April to glioblastoma, an aggressive brain cancer. He lived most of his 50 years within five miles of Santa Susana’s rocket-testing platforms and blamed radioactive ash from there for his disease. Radiation is known to increase the risk of glioblastoma.
“What about preserving human life?” said the mother of two. “They got a smoke screen going on to make them look like they have a halo.”
Be sure to read the article and please, help us share it on your social media! We need it to trend to put pressure on Boeing to do the complete cleanup. Please use hashtags #Boeing and #SSFL.
Also, if you haven’t watched the SSFL documentary, “In the Dark of the Valley,” it’ll be airing again on MSNBC this Sunday, 7pm PST/ 10 pm EST.
