Would you enjoy a drink filled with chemicals like arsenic, lead, or alpha radiation? Those are just a few of the chemicals that Boeing will use to pollute Ventura County’s drinking water and the Los Angeles River. There are actually 310 contaminants that have been documented at Boeing’s Santa Susana Field Lab and most of them are toxic and long-lasting.
The Santa Susana Field Lab is one of California’s most toxic sites but Boeing doesn’t want to pay for the cleanup, even though they signed a legal agreement that they would completely clean the site by 2017. Instead, Boeing recently signed a new “Settlement Agreement” with the California Department of Toxic Substances Control that will allow them to legally leave behind 90-98% of the contamination at the site, permanently. The second part of the deal is with the Los Angeles Water Quality Control Board. Boeing’s “MOU” proposal would allow them to contaminate local waterways in unlimited amounts, indefinitely.
These are the same contaminants that gave my daughter, and over fifty other local children, cancer. Boeing knows the site is causing cancer and other health issues, but they care about profits and their stockholders more. They don’t care if their chemicals contaminate our groundwater, aquifers, and the ocean- which will take centuries to clean once polluted. Boeing wants the cheapest, easiest way out, even if it leaves a costly and dangerous mess for future generations to deal with.
Help us get the word out to help protect our local waterways, people, and the animals who depend on safe clean water with our tongue-in-cheek shirt about Boeing’s flavored (yet deadly) Santa Susana Water. The tri-blend shirts are extra soft and super comfortable.
