Many people have been moved by “In the Dark of the Valley” and have asked us what they can do to help. Here are three things you can do to help our fight for the SSFL cleanup today on #GivingTuesday:
1. Tell California Governor Newsom that you want him to save the SSFL clean up by stopping closed door negotiations between Boeing and the Dept of Toxic Substances Control that will dramatically weaken the cleanup. We need Gov. Newsom to hear from as many people as possible so that he will intervene on behalf of our community to stop the DTSC from abandoning a full cleanup at the site.
2. Share our change.org petition. It’s a simple step, but it has meant a world of difference for us when advocating for the clean up with our congressional representatives and local elected officials. Please share this petition on your social media and help us get to 1,000,000 signatures!
3. Please donate to Parents Against SSFL. We really need your support as we work to increase public awareness about SSFL and grow community participation in the cleanup. We are busy moms with many innovative ideas to accomplish our goals, but we need funding to help execute our vision. This is an especially urgent time, with DTSC poised to make cleanup decisions soon.
Our work has made a significant impact on the visibility of the issues surrounding the SSFL cleanup, most importantly the impact that this toxic site has on the lives of those who live near it. And we are keeping up the pressure on the responsible parties that seek to evade their obligations at the site.
Thank you so much for your ongoing support and encouragement, we truly appreciate it.
Sincerely,
Melissa Bumstead and Jeni Knack
