Petition updateNo more kids with cancer: clean up the Santa Susana Field LabURGENT: We could lose the cleanup forever

Friends,

The Department of Toxic Substance Control (DTSC) may be racing to break the agreements they made for a full cleanup at the Santa Susana Field Lab, by finalizing an Environmental Impact Report (EIR) that would allow as much as 90% of the radioactive and chemical contamination to remain on site permanently... 5 miles from my home.

Tell Newsom to demand a delay on the EIR until he comes into office – tweet at him today.

We know from the Woolsey fire tragedy, we’ll never be safe. The site must be 100% cleaned up – as promised – before more radioactive and toxic chemical contaminants migrate off-site, whereby they can reach hundreds of thousands of people, putting them at risk for cancer, thyroid issues, autoimmune diseases, and more.

If the DTSC finalizes their EIR, Gavin Newsom won’t be able to undo it when he becomes governor in January. Ask him to delay it.

We have asked governor-elect Newsom to completely reform the DTSC, a deeply dysfunctional agency, and enforce the promised 100% cleanup – but if the DTSC finalizes the EIR before Newsom takes office it will make it near impossible for him to stop the corrupt cleanup plan that protects the polluters, not people like my family.

Without your help TODAY, we could lose the cleanup forever. Please tweet at Gavin Newsom and ask him to stop the EIR from being finalized before he takes office in January, so that he can assure that the promises of a full cleanup are carried out. We’re in a critical spot, and without every person who signed this petition helping, we’ll lose the cleanup we so desperately need.

Melissa
