7351 signatures and counting!! The Port of Olympia is taking a vote on whether to support the proposed airport and will be announcing their position in a public meeting this evening. Zoom link and meeting minutes available here: https://portolympia.com/events/https-portolympia-com-wp-content-uploads-2022-10-10-24-2022-commission-meeting-packet-pdf/ . In anticipation of this meeting, I sent the petition to the Port of Olympia commissioners on Oct. 20. I received a reply from one of the commissioners, Amy Evans, as below:
Sue:
The Port does not control the process, but will be voting tonight on whether or not to take a position on the potential airport. I do not support a new airport in Thurston County and will be voting accordingly.
I am sorry for the stress this has caused you.
Amy
So far the airport does not have a sponsor in Thurston county and without a sponsor it can't proceed. You may be aware that there is a ballot proposition in the upcoming election to expand the number of Port of Olympia commissioners from 3 to 5. I am voting no and encourage you to vote no on this proposition because adding two more commissioners could potentially add people who might support the airport.
More updates to come; meanwhile keep sharing so we can keep adding more signatures!
Best regards,
Sue
