Ted Wheeler and the city officials of Portland were kicking the can down the road just two weeks ago, saying they couldn't do anything to help renters or debtors on their mortgages. Then we threatened to cough on them and got nearly 40k people to sign a letter demanding they protect us. Now they are putting some pressure on Kate Brown, Governor of Oregon, to forgive (i.e. cancel) all rent and mortgages during the crisis, but only for those who can "prove" they've been significantly impacted by the pandemic that no one is even testing us for.
This is not enough. But notice how quickly they've changed their tune. This ONLY happened because of the immense amount of pressure YOU have helped put on them. KEEP UP THE PRESSURE. Don't let them force you to prove you've been fired or steal your pittance of unemployment.
Don't let them force you to choose between food, health care, and rent.
Don't let them leave sex workers, contractors, and undocumented people out of their plans.
An injury to one is an injury to all! #RentStrike2020! #NoJob #NoWages #NoRent
