Hello James Braddock Park Defenders, There is a new cause to fight in North Bergen, NJ that needs your attention. It not only affects the park, but all the surrounding communities: Diamond Generating Corp., a subsidiary of Japanese conglomerate Mitsubishi, is currently seeking New Jersey approval to build one of the largest power plants in the state. It is being called the North Bergen Liberty Generating Project and the proposed plant that is aimed to be built in the Meadowlands (on a 15-acre parcel at 94 St. and Railroad Ave., adjacent to Bergen County, the Hackensack River and the Meadowlands in North Bergen, NJ) will generate electricity for New York City only, not for NJ. According to planning documents an underground cable would run from the plant through North Bergen, Fairview, Cliffside Park and Edgewater before crossing the Hudson River to Con Edison’s 49th Street substation.
