"The Herbivore Club has criticised the council’s decision, stating that guinea pigs are widely regarded as companion animals in the UK and should not be farmed for meat. Their petition, launched within a day of the approval, has already gathered hundreds of signatures, and calls for the Welsh Government to ban breeding, killing, sale, and consumption of guinea pigs for food. Opponents argue the practice is culturally unacceptable despite being legal and common in parts of South America"
