No to development in Jennifer Street

The issue

[This petition has now been delivered to Randwick Council. I will post any updates when they are available]

There is a development application (DA/505/2017) that is due to be considered soon, and which, if approved, will see a large apartment block built in Jennifer Street.

The proposal is for a 5/6 story block, with 94 units, above significant basement excavation, in a quiet street of bungalows and 2-story houses.

The building will also see the clearing of endangered Eastern Suburbs Banksia Scrub, which is protected by the Threatened Species Conservation Act and Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act. According to the Office of Environment and Heritage, 'less than 3% of the original distribution of this community remains in a number of isolated remnants' including the site in Jennifer street. The major threat to this habitat is the 'further loss and fragmentation of habitat as a consequence of clearing and development.'

For these reasons alone the application ought to be rejected.
