PETITION TO DUBLIN CITY COUNCIL

Defend the Right to Solidarity with Palestine

To the CEO, Lord Mayor and Members of Dublin City Council.

We, the undersigned, oppose DCC’s instruction to Farmer Jim, a Dublin farmer selling local vegetables from the Rush area, that he cannot display a Palestinian flag on his fruit and veg stall at Bushy Park, Saturday Market. Jim’s van sign reads “Farmers for Palestine, stop the genocide,” and he hangs a Palestinian flag at his stall. This is peaceful political expression and working-class solidarity with an oppressed people undergoing live-streamed slaughter.

Free speech is our democratic right in Ireland. Silencing solidarity with Palestine serves imperialism and attempts to criminalise anti-colonial expression. As workers, we reject the policing of speech and the double standards that protect power while punishing ordinary people who speak out.

We call on Dublin City Council to:

1. Rescind any directive banning Farmer Jim from displaying the Palestinian flag or political solidarity materials.

2. Apologise to Jim.

3. Affirm the right of all Dublin citizens to peaceful political expression on public property.

No silence.

No censorship.

Solidarity is not a crime.

Signed,
