Elk Population Drops 50% in Decade!!

What's causing the Elk population to decline by 50% in the East Kootenay's? We have an abundance of clear cutting, open pit coal mines stripping the land plus high levels of selenium in the waterways that may cause reproductive problems in elk as it does in fish. We certainly don't need another coal mine causing further damage.
