Like gas stations, fast food places and other franchise businesses, Hotels often carry the name like Marriott, or Holiday Inn, but they are owned and operated locally. The Marriott Hotel Corporation committed to correcting 911 in the Corporate Owned hotels, and last week completed the project with 100% compliance. But that left 2500 Marriott branded hotels up to the local owner to fix. In a historic action yesterday, Marriott announced that they now MANDATE as part of their BRAND STANDARD the direct dialing of 911 form their franchise hotels.
FCC Commissioner Ajit Pai applauded this in a press release today: http://transition.fcc.gov/Daily_Releases/Daily_Business/2014/db0908/DOC-329217A1.pdf
I believe this is a direct result of your voice being heard loud and clear through petitions like this, and it is clear evidence that change can happen.
On behalf of Hank Hunt, DaLonna Hunt and everyone of the nearly 1/2 million supporters, I thank you, but we are not done. We need to take this initiative state by state, hotel by hotel and business by business until we have a national standard that requires the direct dialing of 9-1-1 from ANY device, ANY where at ANY time.
