Flood 2020 + Covid19 | Bihar needs a Flood Relief Helpline Number

Thank you for signing and sharing the petition. We are strong with over 5000 signatures and determined to gain more support. Monsoon is soon arriving in Bihar which will result in flooding. Yet the State is clueless about the strategic preparedness and planned response. There doesn’t seem to have an advance planning on issuing a helpline number for flood relief.

Moreover, this year Bihar is on the brink of witnessing overlapping hazards. All the 38 districts of Bihar have reported of COVID-19 positive cases, and the numbers have been increasing every day. Planned action by the State is required to minimise the impact of floods, but in a manner that also restricts the spread of the corona virus. Henceforth, another important activity to be undertaken at the ward level is the identification of spaces for construction of elevated platforms that would act as flood shelters. Construction of elevated platforms promoted through MGNREGA, would have twin benefits: contribute in employment generation, apart from acting as shelter, before the flood strikes.
