Bring Back Ni Hao Kai Lan!

The Issue

Ni Hao Kai Lan is a very entertaining and educational show for children which allows them to experience different cultures and learn about the way of life for other children their ages, not only in their Country but in others as well. Ni Hao Kai Lan also serves as a stepping stone to the development of social skills as well as the care and keeping of our "animal friends". The show also gives us a glimpes into the lives of the children from China and their cultural differences, as well as fostering a respect for those differences. My son has loved watching this show since he was 12 months and has learned not only english from the show, but has also learned words in chinese which will enable him in language development later life. The show has not only taught him valuable lessons, including different ways to play and interact with others, but it also exposes him to a different group of people he may not normally come into contact with on a daily basis. The great thing about Ni Hao Kai Lan, is not only the educational value it brings in a fun and non demeaning way to their varying intelligence levels, but it is a great show for parents to watch and get involved with their children and learn Chinese along with them at the same time!

Many people (mainly networks marketing for profit not education) seem to feel that Spanish is the only language of value in the workforce anymore with the current incline of latin-american influences, but that is just not accurate. Children need to be exposed to more than just English or Spanish, because the United States is a Country made of immigrants whom speak a myriad of different languages, and come from many cultural backgrounds. To eliminate such cultural diversity such as Ni Hao Ki Lan is to virtually say "You are not valuable to us because you do not speak Spanish", and that is wrong. In reality more people in the world speak Chinese (Mandarin), which is what Ni Hao Ki Lan teaches, than any other language in the world. That includes English and Spanish.

So with that in mind, please do not be ethnically selective with what shows you want to air for the children of an extremely diverse Country. By doing so, you are in fact hindering the child's ability to become socially and economically aware of other cultures that differ from their own and in that process we are crippling our future generations with this mindset that "we are all that is".

The bottomline is that Ni Hao Kai Lan was and is a very culturally educational show, that allows the children to imagine and discover news ways of life, thinking and playing without it being "educationally overbearing" and taking the fun away from the learning process. So with this, I would like to petition for the children's show Ni Hao Kai Lan to be brought back on the air for children and adults alike to continue to enjoy and learn.

Please help myself and other parents alike to make that happen, and to give stations like Nickelodeon, Nick Jr., Disney, Cartoon Network and PBS Kids the chance to hear our wants and needs for culturally diverse and educational children's shows. Thank you
