6733 and rising. A letter has been sent to NICE, and a Call for Change is gathering support from patient groups and individuals, on its way to the British Parliament!
For those of you who haven’t heard, last week saw an amazing three hour debate on ME research and treatment in the UK parliament. Nearly thirty MPs from all political parties stood up and spoke for ME patients, covering every issue. For those of us watching, emotions were overwhelming.
First, we stared with amazement and disbelief. It seemed as though no stone was left unturned. All our troubles with delayed diagnosis, harmful treatments, the social benefit system, school attendance, stigma, lack of understanding and misleading research were mentioned. And as our great suffering was elaborated and understood, tears streamed down our faces. Finally, we are heard! Finally, somebody actually cares !
So what happens now?
There are many outcomes that we want to happen, hope will happen, need to happen. But one thing is most urgent. We must STOP HARMING PATIENTS.
There is no better time than now, to push the call to NICE to stop CBT and GET immediately, rather than allow more patients to be harmed for over two more years. Indeed MP Sir Edward Davey highlighted twice in the debate that if these harmful treatments are not stopped, patients will have a case for seeking compensation in court!
So if anyone here will be attending the NICE ME/CFS Guidelines Committee meetings, please bring this petition to them. Get in touch on RColourMusic@hotmail.com and you will be provided with the petition letter, signatures (over 300 pages) and comments (over 70 pages). The more committee members do this, the better! Let’s be SO loud they cannot ignore us. Please inform any stakeholders who will be attending the ME/CFS committee meetings to get in touch.
Other hoped for outcomes are listed in our Call for Change. The document can be viewed and downloaded here, though signatures are still being added and a cover page being designed:

It is hoped that patient organisations from all over the world will add their voice. To do so, please email your organisation name, website and logo to RColourMusic@hotmail.com, clearly stating your request. Individual signatures can be added via this petition:

Let’s do this, and create a groundswell CALL FOR CHANGE!
