Niantic Has Not Listened

Sword Slash
Chantilly, VA, United States

Aug 5, 2021 —

As you know, Niantic has reverted Pokestop/Gym interaction distance to pre-COVID range in New Zealand and the United States. And throughout this whole time, they have yet to publicly respond to the hundreds of thousands of us crying out. I will summarize a letter from the PokeMiners twitter explaining why this change needs to stay.

1. Safety. Trainers can avoid crossing dangerous roads, avoid trespassing on private property, and avoid endangering personal safety. Trainers could avoid dangerous weather hazards and follow social distancing regulations.

2. Accessibility. Trainers who were excluded from certain locations due to lack of accessibility could interact with them. Trainers with sensory issues could play from a more comfortable distance.

3. Respect. Trainers could play from open areas without blocking business, private property, playgrounds, emergency services, places of worship, or memorials.

It is clear that Niantic will not listen to our words alone. I ask that you limit, or cut your spending altogether, to protest this change. Do not let the pressure up. We will accept nothing less than permanently increased interaction distance for free for all players.
