I was incredibly sad to read about baby Fleur’s death at just three months old from group B Strep infection. My heart breaks for Mum and Dad Emily and Ashley, and their friends and family.
Like Emily, I’m really angry at how many parents still aren’t told about group B Strep. The Government and the NHS need to be doing much more to improve awareness of group B Strep, making sure new parents know the signs of group B Strep infection to watch for, and knowing when and where to go for medical help.
Sadly, this wouldn’t have saved baby Emily, but for so many other families, it could make a huge difference.
For anyone wanting more information about group B Strep, do check out UK charity Group B Strep Support’s website at www.gbss.org.uk.
And please share with anyone you know who is expecting a baby, or a new parent.
Best wishes,
Fiona
