Just before Christmas, Sky News broadcast an excellent piece on the urgent need for information and testing for group B Strep for expectant and new parents.

Chief Executive of the Group B Strep Support charity, Jane Plumb MBE was interviewed and explained about the need for information to be given to all pregnant women and new parents. She highlighted the disturbing fact that the free information leaflet about group B Strep, recommended by the Royal College of Obstetricians & Gynaecologists to be provided to all pregnant women, is still not always getting to them. This means that continuing to raise awareness in other ways is still vital and potentially life-saving. Please do download the leaflet here.

If I can ask you please to share the Sky interview across your social media pages and in particular, with any pregnant women and expectant fathers you know. And also, please ask them to sign and share the petition.

Offering testing via the NHS to all pregnant women is still our ultimate goal and needs to be implemented in the NHS, as was so very well said by Marie Ellefson, the Mum who appeared on the Sky News piece with Jane and whose one-year old baby, Gabriel, thankfully has made a good recovery from his group B Strep infection at birth. I completely agree with her.

Best wishes for 2019.

Fiona
