When I started this petition, I had no idea how it would well it would achieve the things I wanted – to save babies’ lives and make a difference to other families, to help prevent Group B Strep devastating other mums and dads, uncles, aunties, grannies and granddads like it has for us, and to make sure my darling Edward Gili’s little life was not lost in vain. At first I was shocked at how quickly thousands of signatures appeared and wondered who all the people were that had taken the time to read our story and support our cause. But even then, I would never have believed that I would be looking at this page with over 200 thousand signatures on it. It is mind-boggling, overwhelming and, in the truest sense of the word, awesome! And not just that – we have had TV news items, press articles, MP’s letters and a hugely impressive amount of social media sharing, none of which I would have dared believe at the start of the campaign. So I want to say a massive thank you to each and every person who has helped us reach this major milestone. This is far from the end of the road in terms of ensuring that every pregnant woman is made aware of Group B Strep and offered the most effective test for it on the NHS. But in terms of raising awareness of the issue and creating momentum to help keep pushing for that change, this really is a huge achievement we can all share. And keep sharing, until those that have the power to put in place the changes we want to see, to save a baby like Edward every week, step up and do what they need to do.
